“Those Days” … Guest Post

Tonight I’m sharing the words of a friend…

May you be blessed by her honesty and wisdom, as I so often am.
There are days when its hard to pray. Where prayer seems to be just about the most useless thing you could do. God seems distant and irrelevant and getting to bedtime is the goal of the day. These are the days where its very easy to excuse yourself from any sort of spiritual anything, feeling like you have nothing to offer.. so why bother. It sucks. It feels like you are stuck, that the day is not going to pass, that you will not ever feel differently.

Please know that I’m not minimalizing those feelings.. because I know that they can be so very consuming, that they are all that can be seen. But I feel like I need to present a different perspective.. that the days of deepest despair, can perhaps, with God’s grace, be the days of deepest connection and opportunity. Because it is on those days when weakness is overwhelming that Gods grace is perfected. It is on those days that you are forced to realize that everything you manage to do is only because of his strength. It is on those days where the tinest prayer of, ‘God help me’ is heroic.

Most importantly, it is on those days that you have a great opportunity to glorify Jesus Christ. Those little prayers of desperation, of acknowledgement that without him you have nothing, bring more glory to him than a day when you float through thinking life is simple and easy. Choosing to place your pain in the hands of the one who wants to hold it not only brings comfort in chaos but brings glory to an awesome God.
